Restorative Yin Yoga
All levels | 60 minutes
Long, slow, gentle and deep, Restorative Yin is a physically, emotionally and mentally therapeutic class. It combines traditional knowledge and practices from India and China with what we are now “re-discovering” in modern western science with fascia and polyvagal theory.
In this class, connective tissue (importantly fascia, but also ligaments, tendons and bones) are gently pulled, pressurised, stretched, strengthened and hence nourished, by stimulating energy (prana/qi) flow through the major energy channels (nadis/meridians) of the body. This is done through mostly floor-based postures that are held passively for longer periods of time with conscious, steady and elongated breathing to bring you to a place of deep stillness.
Often with the aid of props, you will intentionally create gentle eustress (“good stress”) on the connective tissue (the more “yin” parts of the body), to improve flexibility and strength. At the same time, the long-held postures deliver deep relaxation and rejuvenation to the nervous system that boosts your emotional, mental and consequently even your internal organ health.
The antidote to our busy and overstimulated contemporary life, the stillness, calm and introspection of Restorative Yin will leave you feeling rested and refreshed. Slow down and gift yourself the space to soften and open.
Support is offered for all bodies, therefore suitable for all students, from those looking for a comforting, nurturing yoga experience to athletes seeking a post-workout deep myofascial release. The length is 60 minutes.
